Gary Bricknell and Trevor Caley from Mosaic Restoration have been awarded the coveted ‘Excellence in Wall and Flooring Tiling’ award at the Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers Triennial Awards.
The Mosaic Restoration company is a member of the National Federation of Terrazzo, Marble & Mosaic Specialists (NFTMMS) which maintains and improves standards of craftsmanship and technical control throughout the industry. Federation spokesperson Brian James commented, “We are delighted Gary and Trevor have won this award. The skills to carry out this work can be reliably found in NFTMMS members.”
The Award recognised Gary and Trevor’s work carried out at ‘The Chapel of St. George and the English Martyrs’ in Westminster Cathedral. The three-year project involved interpretation of original the artwork designed by Tom Phillips, the production of full sized cartoons, the procurement of Venetian glass smalti and fabrication in the Company’s workshop using the traditional 'in-direct method' and installation on site.
Gary Bricknell commented, “This award is an honour and is shared with all those who worked on this prestige project. I am very grateful for the efforts of both mine and Trevor's teams. Without their enthusiasm and support, the project would not have achieved such a good result - not only delivered on time and on budget but, more importantly, so well received by those that view it”
